Homicides by Colonia, 2014 to 2019

This map shows that the resurgence of violence in Tijuana after 2014 was driven not by dramatic increases in historical hotspots such as Zona Norte, Zona Centro, and Camino Verde (though those places experienced sharp increases in homicides) but rather by geographic expansions of violence across nearly the entire city.

Delays in Crime Reporting, 2019

This concept map attempts to visualize delays in crime reporting by coding the lag between the date a crime occurred and the date it was formally registered with the police. While outliers (such as occasional stolen cars that are not reported for a year) and flaws in the data source may skew the appearance toward longer delays, there does appear to be some evidence that in areas more affected by violence, property crimes take slightly longer to be registered.
